Miley Cyrus blasts Nicki Minaj over MTV racism complaints

Photo Credit: Nicki Minaj's Instagram (@nickiminaj)

It’s been months since Nicki Minaj caused an internet firestorm when she accused MTV of racist practices when it comes to selecting the nominees for the VMAs. At the time, Taylor Swift butted in and tried to diminish Minaj’s complaints and only ended up embarrassing herself and inflaming the situation. But after a public apology, the beef quickly faded and fans nearly forgot about the uproar. But Miley Cyrus brought the drama back into the spotlight recently when she blasted Minaj for complaining about MTV.
In a new interview with the New York Times, Cyrus discussed the Minaj and MTV dustup and claimed that she loosely followed the story.
“I saw that. I didn’t really get into it. I know there was some beef. I don’t really know. There’s a way to talk to people …,” Cyrus said before adding, “She was saying that everyone was white and blonde that got nominated, I heard? And then Taylor Swift butted in.”
The publication then claimed that Minaj may have been including Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” video in regards to white women being nominated for video of the year when they break Vevo records, like Minaj’s “Anaconda” did.
“I didn’t follow it. You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to — that’s a yoga mantra. People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. And it’s not anger like, ‘Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.’ You made it about you. Not to sound like a b—-, but that’s like, “Eh, I didn’t get my V.M.A.’” Cyrus said.
The journalist then tried to interject and explain that Minaj did in fact touch upon the bigger issue of black women’s contributions to culture being diminished in favor of their white counterparts, who often appropriate elements of black culture. However, Cyrus refused to let the journalist speak and went on to rant about how she felt Minaj didn’t have a right to talk about race because she was being disrespectful.

Miley Cyrus Talks Nicki Minaj's VMAs Snub Controversy: 'She Made The Issue All About Herself'

When the nominees for this year’s VMAs were announced, Nicki was quick to remark that her controversial ‘Anaconda’ music video was nowhere to be seen in the Video Of The Year category, despite breaking the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours.

At the time, she alluded to her race when discussing the awards snub, later adding: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”

Shortly afterwards, Taylor Swift weighed in, after mistakenly thinking that Nicki was throwing shade in her direction, but what few people failed to notice was that the ‘Super Bass’ rapper had actually made a few veiled remarks about Miley’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ video, which had won Video Of The Year a year earlier.
In a new interview, Miley has now had her say on the controversy, and it’s fair to say she’s not impressed with Nicki’s remarks.
She told the New York Times: “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It's not very polite.
"You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to- that’s a yoga mantra.
“People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it.”

Miley went on to accuse Nicki of making the issue about herself, adding: “It’s not anger like, ‘Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.’ You made it about you.
“Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my VMA’… if you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type’.”
Although Nicki is yet to publicly respond to Miley, she has favourited several disparaging tweets about her in the aftermath.

The Game' TV Show: Tia Mowry Gets Blasted On Twitter For Body-Shaming Nicki MInaj, Claps Back

Tia Mowry

She used a meme that had been circulating around that compared Denise Huxtable of The Cosby Show (played by actress Lisa Bonet) and a racy snapshot of Nicki Minaj.
It reads, “me” under Huxtable’s picture and “other females” under the "Only" rapper’s photo.

Mowry added the caption, “Not that there’s anything wrong with the ‘other girls’. Get it girls!! But this is so ME!”
While she made it clear she wasn’t trying to start any issues, she got blasted on social media. So she just changed the caption altogether.
“Not that there’s anything wrong the ‘other girls’. Get it girls!! But this is so ME! P.s Nobody is [shaming] anybody either! Please don’t read into it! GESH!”
In the end, Mowry ended up deleting the post altogether. See it over at Bossip.
Some fans took to Twitter to show their mixed responses to Mowry’s post and her decision to snatch it off of social media.
“All that means is Nicki minaj gone get on twitter throwing shade at Tia Mowry and its gone be the weirdest beef ever.”
Another fan said they would not have deleted the post at all.

A third came for Mowry for what many said was body-shaming Nicki.

In Mowry’s defense, she did say that she wasn’t trying to diss anyone. She was just showing what type of woman she is. Nicki Minaj hasn’t responded to the Instant Mom actress’ message just yet.

icki Minaj Pays $30,000 for Brother’s Wedding, Forgets Emilio Pucci Gown at Venue

Nicki Minaj cried during her older brother Jelani Maraj's wedding, which was held in New York on Saturday. The Anaconda star reportedly paid $30,000 for the nuptials.
The "Feeling Myself" rapper's brother tied the knot to Jacqueline Robinson, Hello reported. The 32-year-old took extra efforts not to upstage the bride on her big day. Minaj looked red hot in a dress by Alexander McQueen.
She took to Instagram and thanked the designer for her dress and also thanked her stylist Ruksha Bergman for styling the bride. The rapper's dress featured a plunging neckline and long sleeves. The dress was cinched at the waist with a thigh-high slit in the front.
Minaj accessorized her look with long diamond earrings and the huge mega carat white and yellow heart-shaped sparkler given by her boyfriend Meek Mill. She left her hair loose with a high up do and her signature bangs.
Sources said that Minaj arrived early for the wedding along with her seven security guards, makeup artists, a photographer, and a few friends.
The proud sister shared a number of photos from her brother's big day on Instagram with her 32.3 million followers, including a sweet snap of her and Jelani hugging. "Jelani, I love u more than you'll ever comprehend," she captioned the picture.
She shared that she cried at her brother's wedding, adding that it was one of her favorite nights. The rapper said that she would do anything to catch a smile of Jelani's face. She said that she could cross the ocean and bring the moon for him.
Meanwhile, the singer reportedly left an Emilio Pucci gown worth $11,000 at the venue of the wedding, which was at Coral House in the Big Apple. The owner of the property Butch Yamali told Page Six that he got calls from people who wanted to claim the dress. But, he added that since the gown was very expensive, he wanted to hand it directly to Minaj or someone from her family.
Sources said that Nicki had decided against wearing the bronze dress and ended up leaving it in a bag in the bridal suite. Her stylist Bergman reportedly arranged for designers to loan the dresses to the star and made arrangements to pick it up.

Nicki Minaj & Meek Mill Wedding: Will She Be A Bridezilla On Her Big Day?

Nicki Minaj Meek Mill Wedding

Nicki Minaj is a divine diva who almost always gets her way. So is she going to be the ultimate Bridezilla when she finally walks down the aisle to Meek Mill? HollywoodLife.com has got the answers!

While Nicki Minaj, 32, hasn’t set a wedding date to rapper boyfriend, Meek Mill, 28, she is looking ahead to the big affair but with a refreshingly positive attitude. Unlike some demanding stars, Nicki wants to make sure she and the love of her life have the wedding of their dreams. So does this mean the opinionated star won’t be a bridezilla? Hollywoodlife.com has the EXCLUSIVE details on how she’s going to handle her big day.
“She’s not going to be bridezilla at all. She thinks that’s just doing the most and completely unnecessary. She doesn’t have time to be that witchy bride” an insider tells Hollywoodlife.com EXCLUSIVELY. That’s so refreshing since we know Nicki is a highly opinionated and vocal person, especially with her epic social media rants. “Every moment, from choosing her bridesmaids, her dress, food for the reception, everything, would be a lifetime memory and she wants to be happy and savor every moment. Besides, she believes if a bride is nasty and mean, it will curse her wedding!” our source shared. This should be great news for fans of the couple in wake of split rumors earlier this week.
Nicki’s Zen-like attitude doesn’t stop with just her wedding. As we reported earlier, she’s totally down with the news that people are taking lewd photos of themselves with her Las Vegas Madame Tussauds wax figure. It became the subject of controversy after one museum patron posted a photo of himself humping the statue from behind which depicts Nicki in one of the scenes from her famous, sexy “Anaconda” video.
“Nicki loves her Madame Tussauds wax figure,” a source told us EXCLUSIVELY. “She loves her fans and loves all the attention. It’s all good and all flattering. It’s not up to her to decide how people should pose with the figure. Again, she says the figure and pose are iconic.” Calm and cool with both the wedding and her wax figure being defiled? Who is this new Nicki?
Hollywoodlifers, do you believe that Nicki Minaj won’t go totally Bridezilla over her wedding?

Nicki Minaj-Meek Mill Update: ‘Anaconda’ Singer Pokes Fun At Pregnancy Rumors; Boyfriend Continues Feud With Drake

nicki-minajmeek-mill

Nicki Minaj poked fun at recent pregnancy rumors by posting a meme on Instagram Thursday. The “Ananconda” singer gave rise to speculation that she is having a baby with boyfriend Meek Mill after she called him “my baby father” during an event earlier this month.
In the Instagram post, Minaj teased her fans by posting a picture of a pregnant woman with a caption, “Straight Outta Netflix & Chill,” referring to the film “Straight Outta Compton.” The movie, which is about an '80s American hip-hop group N.W.A., sparked online memes as fans began using its logo on their own pictures. Mill also joined the league by posting a similar meme.
Earlier this month, Minaj addressed Mill as “my baby father” at the First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, leaving fans wondering whether the two were having a baby. Before this, in early July, Mill went on DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show, where he denied his girlfriend was pregnant, but said, “I wish.”
Meanwhile, amid Minaj’s attempts to keep her fans guessing about her baby plans, the 32-year-old’s boyfriend continued his feud with rapper Drake.
On Thursday, Mill shared a video from “The Pinkprint” tour with Minaj on Instagram.
The Philadelphia rapper captioned the video: “Last night on the #pinkprinttour #aka #mygirltour Edmonton Canada! Glad 2 b apart of it,” a reference to Drake’s diss track “Back to Back,” which has a line questioning whether Mill was on a “world tour” or his “girl’s tour.”
The public fight between Drake and Mill began on July 21 after the "All Eyes on You" rapper took to Twitter and told people not to compare him to Drake because he doesn't write his own rap songs. Drake responded by releasing two diss songs, “Charged Up” and “Back to Back,” while Mill fired back with “Wanna Know.”
Fans speculated that the ongoing war of words may soon come to an end after Mill seemingly tried ending the feud in a lengthy Instagram comment. However, it appears that their fight may be never-ending.
On Wednesday, UrbanIslandz reported that Drake recorded a third diss song but did not release it as it could ruin Mill’s career. Drake, who criticized Mill for using Minaj to gain fame, had previously targeted him after rumors of Minaj’s pregnancy.

Nicki Minaj's waxwork needs extra security because people are pretending to have sex with it

Nicki Minaj wax figure at Madame Tussauds, Las Vegas

Nicki Minaj's waxwork needs extra security because people are pretending to have sex with it.

Madame Tussauds has issued a statement apologising for any offence caused after one photo in particular was brought to its attention.
"We have been made aware of the inappropriate photograph that was taken at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, involving Nicki Minaj's new wax figure," they wrote.

"Madame Tussauds attractions are interactive, immersive experiences, and our visitors are generally respectful towards the wax figures. It is unfortunate that this visitor decided to behave so inappropriately and we apologise for any offence this has caused.

"We do have staff monitoring guest behaviour in the attraction and do our utmost to ensure our wax figures are treated respectfully, but on this occasion clearly one of our hosts was not present.
We are taking immediate steps to ensure more staff are present in this area and that the set around this particular figure is redesigned so that a picture like this cannot be taken again."

Minaj previously called the waxwork "iconic" and has posted multiple pictures of the figure across her Instagram.

Azealia Banks recently questioned why Minaj had to be depicted on all fours, tweeting: "As much as that woman has accomplished, they had to put her on all fours... Why not standing up with a mic in her hand ???"

Sex, drugs, rock and roll: Too much for pop videos?

Jessie Ware performs at the Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival in Indio, California.

British music artists such as Calvin Harris and Jessie Ware may have to rethink how risque they come across in their online videos.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and the BPI, which represents the UK music industry, have collaborated with various record labels, Vevo and YouTube, to display age ratings on music videos deemed unsuitable for children.
A government-backed pilot study took place last year for six months, which saw three major UK record companies -- Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK and Warner Music UK -- submit content to the BBFC which were likely to be inappropriate for children under the age of 12.
The BBFC then issued either a 12, 15 or 18 rating, in line with their classifications, which include drug misuse, dangerous behavior presented as safe, bad language, sexual behavior and nudity, threatening behavior and violence.
To date, 132 music videos have been submitted by UK labels to the BBFC and only one has been given an 18-rating -- British rapper Dizzee Rascal's murderous, machete-wielding "Couple of Stacks" video. On YouTube, the rating means that the video will not automatically open in the browser, bringing up a "Content Warning" overlay requesting that you sign in and confirm your age. After that, providing you are over 18, you are asked to confirm that you understand the video is "inappropriate for some users."

Independent research commissioned by the BBFC showed that up to 60% of children aged 10 to 17 watch music videos that they do not think their parents would approve of.
"Parents taking part in our most recent review of the BBFC Classification Guidelines in 2013, expressed their concerns about the content of music videos online, in particular their role in the sexualisation of girls and portrayals of self-harm, drug use and violence in some music video content," David Austin, BBFC's Assistant Director, said in a statement.
YouTube said that the ratings are in addition to their users being able to add their own age warnings to videos they upload and a safety mode enabling parents to screen out unsuitable content.
"At Vevo we support artists and their creativity, however, we understand the importance and value that age ratings provide parents and music fans to help inform their viewing, enabling them to make choices about what content they wish to watch," Nic Jones, EVP International at VEVO, said in a statement.
However, the guidelines do not apply to music videos created outside of the UK -- so notoriously raunchy artists such as Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke are unaffected. "Not sure of the point of giving music videos age ratings if it only applies to those that are made in the UK," commented one Twitter user.
Some also wonder how effective the restrictions will be. "Interesting decision to put age-ratings on music videos... because children aren't known for ignoring age-restrictions online are they," tweeted Charlene White.
"... music industry knows this is online cat-nip click bait to under 18 's & will boost sales," says another wary tweeter.
The British government added that they would work with the music industry to "look at how lessons learned in the UK could help international partners who share our concerns to adopt a similar approach."

Nicki Minaj Is So Much More Than Her Butt

Earlier this month, a Madame Tussauds wax figure of Nicki Minaj was revealed, featuring a version of Minaj from her "Anaconda" video, frozen in time on all fours. Azealia Banks called out the obvious objectification, pointing out, "As much as that woman has accomplished, they had to put her on all fours... Why not standing up with a mic in her hand???"
Minaj is a six-time Grammy nominated artist who is constantly belittled in the media, portrayed as a crazy person with a big butt. Last month when Minaj and Swift had the brief Twitter feud, Entertainment Weekly was called out when they tweeted about the conflict with a smiling photo of Swift and one of Minaj that made the singer look unhinged. Though EW apologized, they were just the latest to unconsciously put Minaj down.

Minaj is an unapologetic feminist who isn't afraid to call out sexism in the music industry and assert her own power. She explained in her MTV documentary My Time Now, that she isn't afraid to demand the best from people, but realizes the double standards she and other women face, saying, "When I am assertive, I'm a bitch, and when a man is assertive, he's a boss." Minaj is all about leaning way, way in. She recognizes the undeserved rep she courts by being aggressive, but she doesn't let that stop her from demanding excellence.

At a recent visit to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia she spoke again about the importance of women speaking up for themselves and for their work, saying, "I think it's important for girls to be very hands-on with whatever they do, be in charge, take control, and lead your own destiny." Those words are just as meaningful for a young girl to hear as any of Swift's pieces of advice, but Minaj is rarely lauded as a role model like Swift is.
"Anaconda" has become an iconic video, and Minaj looks amazing in it. But by capturing her on all fours, the wax figure and those behind it are taking away her power, her agency over the video and her career. She isn't an object: she's a smart, talented artist who performed a song that has more than 490 million views on YouTube and was certified double platinum. She deserves more than being reduced to a singer with a big butt— she deserves respect.

The fame game: why celebrities including Nicki Minaj are launching their own game apps

Nicki Minaj

Bottling a perfume used to top the hierarchy of celebrity endorsements. Lend your name to a Debenhams collection? Fine, but everyone knows you didn’t design it. Do a voiceover for a loo roll? Selling out for the endless supply isn’t the worst way to flog your soul but it cheapens the brand.
But a perfume felt personal: smell is intimate, and even if the celeb in question had nothing to do with the aroma the branding felt coherent, like they’d bottled their essence and made it available to you in time for the Christmas rush. They had signed off on a word that best captured their spirit and only coincidentally sounded like it might also be a regional nightclub (Zest, Mystery, Exotica, etc).
But perfume is now passé. Who needs to smell nice when they could be using their phone — the average user now checks theirs 110 times a day. And celebrities aren’t rich, famous and powerful for nothing: they innovate. The celebrity game app is the new celebrity perfume.
Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity to announce that she’ll be launching a game, with Glu Mobile, the same company that brought you Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. Before you scoff, in its first five months Kardashian’s app was installed 22,857,239 times, and it made £27.8 million in the third quarter of last year. The concept is so meta — create a celebrity out of nowhere and try to make her the biggest star in the world — that it neatly corroborates the growing suspicion that Kim is the one having the biggest laugh of us all.
A statement from the brand indicated that Minaj’s game will involve “her likeness, voice and creative attention”.  Glu is on a celebrity acquisition mission (presumably that it hopes to convert into a user acquisition pay-off). It is launching another with actor Jason Statham — Sniper X: Kill Confirmed sounds like it could be one of his movies. It also announced that Katy Perry would be launching a game in the “second half” of 2015 — it’s part of a five-year deal and will involve a “digital playground of global success and talent”.

Weatherbeaten adventurer Bear Gryll has got one: on Survival Run, you must flee a grizzly bear that just won’t quit chasing you. The turf is treacherous, and the cub smarter than your average bear. With each success you’ll unlock equipment - including choppers, paragliders and jetpacks - and you can earn coins and food. Obviously, it’s the sort of foraged fare favoured by Grylls on his adventures in the wild.
Snoop Dogg’s in the game too: he launched Way of the Dogg, created with studio 505 Games and developer Echo Peak, last year. It’s a combat game set to his music — really — that was inspired by Snoop’s love of old school Kung Fu films. Every level involves a new fight, set to a new song; Snoop pops up in Temple Tutorials. He’s also popped up with a cameo in True Crime: Streets of LA, as an unlockable character with a mission and his own car.

Nicki Minaj Might Have Just Won Pregnancy Announcements Forever

Minaj's fans in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, got quite a surprise when Minaj made what certainly sounds on the face of it like a pregnancy announcement. (Nothing has been officially confirmed yet by Minaj.) She and Mill have been dating for several months, and Minaj posted a picture of what seems to be an engagement ring to her Instagram back in May. And now they might be expecting -- or at least planning? -- a baby.
Nicki Minaj has a permanent place on my "hey, you're all right, lady" list ever since she provided the voice for one of the characters on the cartoon Steven Universe. And this latest announcement, whatever it actually means, is just another indicator that, whether she's pregnant or not, Minaj knows how to work a crowd. And of course, who better than the queen of showmanship to release what is basically the biggest and most dramatic pregnancy announcement video ever made?

YouTube is brimming to the gills with pregnancy announcement videos of all kinds, but I think it's hard to argue that anyone is going to beat the sheer imagery of dropping that little bomb in front of thousands of screaming fans. And I for one would much rather hear Minaj do "Anaconda" than hear yet another "we're expecting" parody of a Frozen song. If I want to listen to off-kilter rhymes and awkward rhythm, I'll listen to Iggy Azalea.
For now I'll offer tentative congratulations to Minaj and Mill on the potential Schrodinger's baby they've got going on, and not-so-tentative congratulations on her ability to make a crowd go wild. And to the rest of the world looking for a way to announce a pregnancy: Maybe try something other than a video. You can't top the queen.

The latest rumour to come out claims that Nicki Minaj is pregnant with Meek Mills baby and these rumours actually started following comments that the singer made herself. Nicki was performing in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, when she was joined on the stage by her boyfriend Meek Mill, with Minaj telling the crowd, "Make some noise for my baby father."

This obviously led many to assume that Nicki Minaj must be pregnant with Meek Mills baby and it did not take long for this rumour to ignite and spread. However, Nicki has since responded to fans questioning her about being pregnant, by posting a number of laughing emojis, indicating that it is all a joke and she is not pregnant at all.

Meek has admitted that he would love for Nicki to get pregnant but respects her wishes and agrees that they will not try for a baby until they tie the knot.

Countless celebs have been accused of Photoshopping their pictures to make themselves look slimmer or smooth out their skin, but is Nicki Minaj the latest celeb to edit her pics?

The "Anaconda" hit maker was slammed by fans after she posted a picture of herself and boyfriend, Meek Mill, on Instagram on Sunday. Fans called out Minaj for Photoshopping her booty because part of her hairstylist's leg looks to be missing.
Comments on the pic include, "Pathetic photoshoppin ass lmaoooo," "Hahahahaha my god look at the guys [sic] shorts in the background. Fake ass celebrities" and "Either my man has suttin [sic] seriously wrong with his leg. Or someone's photoshop game Weak AF."

But Minaj is not going to let the Photoshopping rumors run rife as she took to Instagram again to explain there was no editing involved, and that it's just a shadow. And if you look closely, you can clearly see the outline of her hairstylist's shorts.
Taking to Instagram, Minaj posted a text conversation between herself and Alex Grizz, which she captioned, "Lol why did I actually text @grizzleemusic about this? yall [sic] so damn crazy. I was like we don't need to do that."
